Photo Gallery - Rockport to Jim Thorpe '11

Bright and early on October 15 the intrepid ones from Generation to Generation and the Area Agency on Aging set out in the midst of pouring rain at 8:00 am. When the chauffer (me) picked up Ms. Kohut at the Sears parking lot he was greeted with something like……”If you think that I am going to ride a bike down the Lehigh Gorge in weather like this you have another think coming !!!” Having just checked with the National Weather Service (Noreen Clark from WNEP) who talked about showers and clearing, so that calmed Linda down a bit……a very little bit!!
Anyhow we arrived at Whitewater Challengers and there were several peeks of sun, so we saddled up and moved on out via bus to White Haven. We joined a group of Polish exchange students who took off ahead of us……they did not want to wait for two of the Jack Frost Geezers their students, and a special member of the Jack Frost Divas who led our group most of the 25 miles to Jim Thorpe. Earlier the tour director (me) told Linda “not to worry…..we are not in hunting season”. Well as you can tell by the photo she made me pull over next to the “It is hunting season bikers….be prepared to duck!!” No critters of note this trip, assuming that the raptors are busy migrating, bears are hibernating and the deer were hiding.
We enjoyed the waterfalls, and several commented that we would love to see Bridal Vail Falls immediately after a storm. Must check it out this winter…..bet it is beautiful when covered with ice!! We had several stops to talk about the canals, the lock system and a bit about the town of Tannery and how the railroad replaced the lock system after a terrible flood wiped out the locks and canals. We also talked a bit about the freight line that runs from Philadelphia to Montreal.
Anyhow, 4 hours and a half or so caused several complaints concerning posterior ache & pain, but all recovered the next day. A great time was had by all……..Carl had a great idea for next year…..start in Jim Thorpe, ride up to White Haven for lunch, then back to Jim Thorpe for dinner. That would be about 50 plus miles. We took a vote and 4-1 told Carl to have a wonderful time !!
Join us next year………
Biker Billy……
