About Us
It was the sensitivity, insight, and compassion of Eric Lee who noticed quite a few of his customers finding a challenge with life-transition. People who were very prominent and successful, as well as very active, were now finding the life transition of retirement very challenging. It showed in their conversation, dress and appearance that their once confident and enthusiastic personalities were displaying an effect that they and others never fully anticipated. Eric Lee in his charismatic way of engaging in relationships recognized this and realized how important it was for senior, mature people to maintain a sense of self-worth, belonging and respect in activities that were woven with meaningful relationships. Eric believes that from cradle to grave, everyone deserves respect and dignity and this is possible through meaningful relationships that are inherent in meaningful activities.
Eric, in his engaging and organizing way, called together a group of people, with the first meeting occurring in March, 2007. This meeting was the incipient seed of Generation To Generation. It was thereafter that a series of meetings began to develop a mission statement, goals, and a series of activities that would have relevance and meaning to people of all ages. For even though it was recognized that our senior, mature people would benefit from engaging in meaningful relationships through activities, it was also recognized that, people being people, everyone of all ages could benefit from such activities and from the relationships with each other. Why? Because people are so essential to enriching the lives of others. The name of our organization - Generation to Generation - incorporates the theme that the greatest gift that we have is each other. The family, as the cornerstone to society, blends generations, and the best of family is carried on through the richness of relationships. And when we share this richness, we then begin to see that the best of relationships is the old and young, the gifts and talents of each, dignity and worth of individuals, successes and failures, and much more. All become part of what makes up our community and what can be shared from generation to generation. This is so far-reaching, from the core of one’s presence to the unlimited opportunities that togetherness in community can bring, from generation to generation.
On September 9th, 2007, Generation to Generation was presented to the community. An overflowing, standing-room-only crowd at the Peking Chef Restaurant showed that the hard working efforts of the founding Board of Directors, along with the vision of its founder, Eric Lee, were acknowledged as an organization that would bring value to the community because it was bringing value to people. It was on that date that 50 individuals signed up as members and began to organize and schedule activities. It was announced that through the graciousness of Dr. Michael MacDowell, President of Misericordia University, an office would soon open. It was also on that evening that the Board of Directors received an affirmation that people need people and Generation To Generation would continue its commitment as a “Labor of Love.” And the commitment has continued. There have been many exciting events during our first year and the vision of our founder and founding Board continues to unfold. Through this web site, it is our hope to invite you to share our wonderful experiences and news.
